Arriving in New Orleans

Day 1

In New Orleans, there are various community groups working in different neighborhoods of the city. These projects are, for example: the “You are not here Project”, the “Mapping Project”, the “Booth Project” and the “Freeformed.net Voice Circle”.

Day 2

On the second day you can meet with the Porch Project or a professor at Xavier University in the Mass Communications Department (located in Gert Town) and one of the people involved in the Witness organization, to get to know more about their digitalized storytelling project.

Day 3

It is as well possible to visit the Green Project. This is an organization that has been present in New Orleans for thirteen years. It functioned as the city’s sole recycling center since the storm. It is a nonprofit organization that is dedicated to creatively promoting and encouraging environmental sustainability in New Orleans. They recycle a lot of materials (building materials and paint). As well they deconstruct homes and save usable materials.

A visit to the Lower 9th Ward

As well, people have the possibility to meet NENA, the Neighborhood Empowerment Network Association that is situated in the heart of the Lower Ninth Ward. The Lower 9th Ward Homeowner’s Association is also located there. It is an organization that is dedicated to facilitate the homecoming of neighborhood residents; especially senior citizens. Their goal is to safe the land from being sold to investors. Information about the Lower 9th Ward Homeowner’s Association can be found on ny2no.net, too.
